William Fortner, son of the late Clyde Fortner and Lillie Allstun Fortner, was born on July 13, 1929, at Flint, Mich., and died in his residence at rural Dexter on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at the age of 76.

Mr. Fortner was a retired carpenter, a veteran of the United States Army, and a resident of rural Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Violet Lee on April 1, 1948, at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Fortner preceded him in death on April 25, 1990.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Rowe of Dexter; two sons, Terry Fortner of Exeter and Richard Fortner; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at the Hagy Cemetery with Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter was in charge of arrangements.
