Merritt E. Taylor, 69, of Advance, was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Earl and Ida Ellard Taylor, and died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Merritt was a retired farmer. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and an MP.
Merritt and Mary Cudd were united in marriage on Jan. 22, 1982, at Advance, and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Robin Taylor of Ft. Hood, Texas, John Dee Taylor of Advance, and Billy Taylor of Advance; four daughter, Ida Jo Crooms of Advance, Laurel Ann Dunlap of Lewisburg, Nikki Davis of Wappapello, and Brenda Yeager of Elk, Wash.; three step-sons, Jackie Payne of Advance, Billy Payne of Richland, and David Payne of Advance; four step-daughters, Janet Burnett of Sikeston, Virgie Cloninger of Advance, Mary Loomis of DeSoto, and Ginger Hewitt of Advance; a brother, Walter Taylor of Meridian, Miss; a sister, Nancy Kivett of Fosterburg, Ill.; two half-sisters, Sharon Short of Elsa, Ill., and Anita Givens of Gloster, Va.; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, John Payne; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with his children speaking.
Interment will follow in Morgan Memorial Park at Advance.
