George Louis Whitaker

George Louis Whitaker, the son of the late Hyarm and Pearl Moore Whitaker was born in Risco on Aug. 15, 1928, and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 27, 2005, at the age of 77.

Mr. Whitaker had been a resident of Wappapello for more than 15 years. He was retired from General Motors and was a self-employed carpenter. He attended the General Baptist Church. Mr. Whitaker was in the U. S. Army and a decorated veteran of World War II.

In August 1952 he was married to Marjorie Baucum. She preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 1967.

Surviving are three daughters: Teresa Dickerson of Coker, Ala., Debrah Schaffer of Denver, Colo. and Jody Hill of Imperial; seven grandchildren: Gary E. Dickerson, Jr., Waylon L. Dickerson, Sr., Shani B. Farley, Jacqueline N. Edwards, Lisa E. Schaffer, Marjorie J. Whitaker and Jeromey Goad; eight great-grandchildren: Joshua L. Dickerson, Tabetha D. Dickerson, Dalton Farley, Keaton Farley, Waylon Dickerson, Jr., Adaya J. Stroder, Cameron Edwards and Teressa Edwards. He is also survived by two brothers: Luther Whitaker of Dexter and Winford Whitaker of Dudley; four sisters: Helen Reed of Doniphan, Missouri, Blythe Lawrence of Weir, Kansas, Mary Dugger of Dudley, and Darlene Parks of Dudley.

Surviving of the home in Wappapello is Norma Hart.

Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, from 5-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at 12 noon in the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Kevin Chenoweth of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
