Mae Ida Whitaker, the daughter of the late Leonard "Man" and Ollie Mae Jones Getter, was born in Marvell, Ark. on March 10, 1940, and died at her home in Essex on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at the age of 65.

She had lived in the Essex area for the past 49 years. She had attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grayridge under the fellowship of G.W. Harris of Sikeston.

She had worked and retired from Tyson Foods after working there for 35 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Kirtina Johnson of Sikeston and Susan Green of Gardner, Kan.; two sons, Ted Whittaker and Warren Whittaker, both of Essex; four brothers, Robert Jones and Billy Joe Getter, both of Malden, Jesse James Getter of East St. Louis, Ill., and Lee Dale Getter of Parma; and one sister, Von Getter of Parma; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Jones.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Moses Grayson of Essex officiating.

Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
