Byron Phillips, son of the late Charles Edward Phillips and Licci Elsie Cox Phillips, was born on May 3, 1920 at Zadock and died in his residence at Bloomfield on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at the age of 85.
Mr. Phillips was a farmer, former chief of police in Bloomfield, and a former heavy equipment operator. He was of the General Baptist faith and a resident of Bloomfield.
He was united in marriage to Betty Magee on Nov. 11, 1954, at Bloomfield. Mrs. Phillips survives of the home in Bloomfield.
Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Nancy Jean Phillips of Bloomfield; two grandsons, Shaun Eric Phillips and Christopher John Phillips, both of Bloomfield; two brothers, Charles Edward Phillips and Kenneth Dean Phillips, both of Bloomfield; and two sisters, Novella Kingree of Aid and Lorene Kennett of Dexter.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Wayne Phillips; and one brother, Orin Phillips.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Cooper officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
