Charlene Armes, daughter if the late John Webb Baker and Zelia Barham Baker was born on February 20, 1919 at Dexter and died in the Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff on November 23, 2005 at the age of 86.

Mrs. Armes was a member of the Essex Missionary Baptist Church in Essex, a home-maker, a former resident of Essex, and a current resident of Poplar Bluff.

She was united in marriage to George Wilbur Armes on December 25, 1937 at Dexter. Mr. Armes preceded her in death on January 26, 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Armes, of Hamilton and Charles Armes, of Excelsior Springs; two daughters, Willene Phillips, of Nederland, Texas and Linda Marshall, of Poplar Bluff; by 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Ray Baker, Clay Baker, George Baker, and Melvin Baker; by four sisters, Elma Bess, Ione McClard, Hallie Crutcher and Betty Triplett; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from noon until 2 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2005. Funeral services will then be conducted at 2 p.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral with Rev. David Hardin officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.
