Thelma Toombs, the daughter of the late Thomas and Esther Babcock Tharp, was born in Michigan on May 30, 1928, and died at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at the age of 77.

She had lived in the Parma area for many years and had resided in Sikeston the past 20 years. She had attended the Murray Lane Baptist Church before her health failed.

In 1954, she was married to Claude Charles Toombs in Tupelo, Miss. He preceded her in death in 1960.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Faye Oglesby of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Toombs on June 25, 2000; one brother, Junior Tharp; and one sister, Pauline Baker.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter.

Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
