Louis W. Backfisch, son of the late Dennis Backfisch and Lisette Schubert Backfisch, was born on March 10, 1914, at St. Louis and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at the age of 91.

Mr. Backfisch was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter where he was a charter member and served on the original building committee for the church, a retired salesman for M.F.A., had served in the United States Navy during World War II and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Helen Hoopingarner on Feb. 8, 1946, at Essex. Mrs. Backfisch survives of the home in Dexter.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Backfisch, George Backfisch, Charles Backfisch and Edward Backfisch; and one sister, Anna Niehaus.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter with Rev. Adam Mueller and Rev. Michael Mathey officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
