Norma Whitman, daughter of the late Herbert "Slim" Gaines and Ethel Mayberry Gaines, was born on July 1, 1932, at Dexter and died in her residence at Dexter on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at the age of 73.

Mrs. Whitman attended the First Baptist Church in Dexter, was a former secretary for Hi-Lo Trailers at Tampa, Fla., and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Walton Whitman at Tampa, Fla. Mr. Whitman preceded her in death on June 6, 2002.

Survivors include her cousins, Loyd and Shirley Gaines of Dexter; her aunt, Genevie Gaines; and her sister, Marilyn Abernathy.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Danny.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in the Gathering Room at the First Baptist Church in Dexter with Dr. Odus Eubanks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Ezell Cemetery near Dexter.
