Shirley McGhee
Shirley McGhee, daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian Opal Burchett Book, was born in Malden on March 14, 1932, and died at her home in Dexter on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at the age of 73.

She had lived in Dexter for the past 36 years. She had worked at the Hickory House Restaurant as cashier for many years and had also worked as a CNA at the Vintage Villa Nursing Home in Dexter. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Dexter.

On Oct. 17, 1948, she was married to Joe L. McGhee in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, Mike McGhee of Edmond, Okla., and Ron McGhee of Dexter; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, A.J. Book of Clarksville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Black; and one grandson.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Pastor Shane Mallard of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
