Maria Anita Rikard, daughter of the late Jose Gonzalez and Celestina Garcia Gonzalez, was born on June 26, 1921, at St. Louis and died in her residence at Dexter on Wednessday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the age of 84.

Mrs. Rikard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, formerly owned the L & M Supermarket in Dexter with her husband, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #311 in Dexter where she served as worthy matron, was a former professional softball player where she played shortstop for various St. Louis teams and loved to talk politics.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd O. Rikard on Jan. 26, 1940, at St. Louis. Mr. Rikard preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1988.

Survivors include one daughter, Alicia White of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Rikard; two brothers, Joe Gonzalez and Mike Gonzalez; three sisters, Sarah Breidenbach, Jovita Williams and Helena Stolsek.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the funeral service following immediately afterward with Rev. Kevin Chenoweth officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
