Katie Doris Gwaltney, daughter of the late James Thomas Hobgood and Susan Henrietta Tucker Hobgood, was born on Dec. 18, 1903, at Leora and died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, in the Festus Manor Nursing Home at the age of 102.

Mrs. Gwaltney was a homemaker, a member of the Bernie General Baptist Church and was a resident of Festus.

She was united in marriage to Jesse Ernest Gwaltney on Feb. 20, 1927, at Bernie. He preceded his wife in death on Jan. 3, 1986.

Survivors include one daughter, Louise Coats of Barnhart; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Other than by her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie with Rev. Dean Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
