Dennis L. Scherer, 52, formerly of Dexter and Bell City, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born Nov. 17, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas, son of Robert and Mona Jones Scherer of Dexter, he was a self-employed business owner of Big D's Restaurants in Doniphan and Poplar Bluff. A member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Poplar Bluff.

On Jan. 22, 1994, in Dexter, he married Shirley Mills who survives of the home.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one son, James "Jim Bob" Scherer of Poplar Bluff; three step-sons, Aaron Rogers, Jeff Rogers, and Brian Rogers of Dexter; one sister, Gale Scherer of Dallas; four brothers, David Scherer of Bell City, Greg Scherer of Bloomfield, and Danny Scherer and Chris Scherer of Oran; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan with Father Lutz officiating.

Interment followed in the St. Benedict Cemetery in Doniphan.
