Vera B. Bess, daughter of the late Everett C. Bess and Lora Frances Harrah Bess, was born on Feb. 14, 1928, in Ft. Collins, Colo., and died on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 77.

Vera was the owner and operator of Vera's Drapery Business in Dexter for many years. She was once awarded Woman of the Year by the Dexter Business and Professional Women, and a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Girvin of Dardanelle, Ark.; two sons, Jonathan Wellman of Poplar Bluff and David Wellman of Tacoma, Wash.; one grandson, John Lewis Girvin, IV, of Fort Smith, Ark.; one great-granddaughter, Haylie Girvin, also of Fort Smith, Ark.; one brother, Carl F. Bess of Columbia, Md.; and two sisters, Sylvia Hill and Linda Baker, both of Dexter.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at the Dexter First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Louis Lowe officiating.
