Buford W. "Bill" Koechig of Pontiac, Mich., was born July 19, 1922, in Bloomfield and died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at the age of 83.

He was the son of Otto and Tulia Koechig; father of Thomas L. (Amelia); Marcus W. (Mary), Stanley M. (Pamela), Christopher O. (Rhonda), Buford W. Jr. (Mary), Yvonne Dupuy-Koechig (Pierre), and Marcia L. Daniels (Jimmy); grandfather of Tom, Armondo, David, Ashley, Taylor, Kelly, Shawn, Ryan, Ellery, Lilly Frances, Leah Nichole, William Ross, Timmy Andrew, and the late Joshua. Bill was anxiously awaiting the births of two new bundles of joy, a grandson and a great-grandchild, both expected this May; great-grandfather of Jared, Anjeleena, Joshua Thomas, and David Michael; brother of the late Griff Koechig (Lora) and an infant sister; cousin of Albert Kruse (Irene), Florence (Doodle) Brown (the late Claude), and Sharon VanMatre (the late Jack).

Mr. Koechig served in the U.S. Navy North Atlantic Theater during World War II, on the U.S.S. Daniel #DE-335 and retired from Fisher Body after 31 years of service. He enjoyed baseball, birds, gardening, won the Pontiac Beautification Award), spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of U.A.W. (Fisher Body), V.F.W. Heart of the Lakes and Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.).

A celebration of Buford's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home in Waterford, Mich., with family and friends officiating.

Interment will be held in Hill Cemetery in Bloomfield on Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at 3 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 3-5 p.m and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 -3 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the March of Dimes. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
