Myrtle Boyd, daughter of the late William Hathaway and Dora Melvina Riddle Hathaway, was born on May 3, 1913, at Dexter and died in the Malden Nursing Center and Rehab on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at the age of 92.
She was united in marriage to John Webb Boyd on Nov. 6, 1927, at Piggott, Ark. He preceded his wife in death on July 18, 1988.
Mrs. Boyd and her late husband John had been custodians with the Bernie Public Schools for 35 years until their retirement. She was a lifetime member of the White Oak Grove General Baptist Church of rural Bernie.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Sharon Stevens and husband Glen, Bob Whitehead and wife Susan, Derretta Patrick and husband Eddie, all of Bernie; two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Stevens of Bernie and Casey Williams and husband Steven of Dexter; four great-great-grandchildren, Kristin Stevens and Ashlyn Stevens, both of Bernie, and Bailee Williams and Mattilyn Williams, both of Dexter.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Imogene Whitehead and Katherine Boyd in infancy; one brother, Eugene Hathaway; and one sister, Gladys White.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie with Rev. Bill Pennington officiating.
Interment will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery in rural Dexter.
