Clara J. Hill, daughter of the late Edgar Chasteen and Addie Sifford Chasteen, was born on Feb. 5, 1901, near Lick Creek and died in the Central Gardens Residential Care Center at Dexter on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the age of 105.
Mrs. Hill was a member of the Corinth General Baptist Church, a wife, mother and homemaker. She owned and operated the Hill General Store, north of Dudley for 30 years, and was a resident of Dexter. She was a volunteer for the Dexter Senior Center for 20 years.
She was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Hill in 1922. Mr. Hill preceded her in death on April 17, 1972.
Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Hill of Auburn Hills, Mich.; two daughters, Bessie Hill Bridges of Puxico and Josephine Hill Lee of Dexter; six grandchildren, Donna Bridges-Bailey, Mike Bridges, Mickey Lee Tuley, Pam Hill Treat, Kent Bridges and Bruce Bridges; six great-grandchildren, Scott Bailey, Amy Bailey, Jennifer Tuley Rowland, Joe Bridges, Megan Bridges and Ross Bridges; four great-great-grandchildren, Emma Bailey, Betsy Bailey, Harrison Scott Bailey, and Brayton Bridges.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Otto Chasteen, Elvis Chasteen, Rube Chasteen and Claude Chasteen; one sister, Bessie Chasteen McLain; and one great-granddaughter, Joanna Lee Tuley.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2006, in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Rev. Kermit Patton officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery near Dexter.
