Arvel N. Menley, the son of the late henry Everet and Sarah Ellen Leffel Menley, was born in Stoddard County on April 23, 1917, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the age of 88.
Mr. Menley had lived in Southeast Missouri all his life. He had worked as a farmer and had also worked at Swift's Poultry Plant in Dexter.
On March 3, 1954, he was married to Wilda Mae Horn in New Madrid. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2005.
Surviving are one son, Glennon Menley of Lebanon; four daughters, Evelyn Boyt, Cathy Smith, and Joan Espada, all of Dexter, and Wilma Rodgers of Sikeston; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Peterson of Rock Island, Ill.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patty Thomason; two sisters, Evelyn Menley and Martha Bell Osloske; and one brother, Lester Menley.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Dale Grissom of Dexter officiating.
Interment will follow in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
