Mildred Payne

Mildred Marie Payne, daughter of the late James Stafford and Fannie Cashion Stafford, was born on Nov. 7, 1922, at Gibson and died in the Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter on Sunday, March 26, 2006, at the age of 83.

Mrs. Payne was of the pentecostal faith, the owner of Payne's Shoe Store in downtown Dexter for over 30 years with her late husband, and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Eldon Perry Payne on June 21, 1941, at Campbell. Mr. Payne preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1998.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Richard McCuan of Jackson and Teena and Marion Fields of Dexter; five grandchildren, Jessica McCuan of New York, N.Y., Josh Fields and wife Amy of Dexter, Caitlin McCuan of Columbia, Rebecca Hester and husband Josh of Cuba, and Callie McCuan of Jackson.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Trout and Rita Mae Turner.

Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Bentley officiating.

Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
