Ruby Lorraine Gilmore, daughter of the late Paul Christian Toombs and Minnie Toombs, was born on Jan. 13, 1923 in Longwood, Mo., and died after a short illness on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Springfield. She was 83.
Mrs. Gilmore graduated from Fair Grove High School in Fair Grove, Mo. She and her first husband lived in Dexter until the closure of the Malden Air Base in 1960, when they moved to the Springfield area. For 30 years, she operated Draperies by Ruby in Springfield.
Survivors include two daughters, Madeline DeJournett of Advance and Kathy Giles of Springfield; three sons, David Giles of Ava, Tim Giles of Springfield and Mark Giles of Bois D'Arc, Mo.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Jennifer DeJournett of Minneapolis, Minn., Matthew and Laura DeJournett of Kelso, Kristin DeJournett of Memphis, Tenn., Riley Giles of Republic, Levi Giles of Springfield, Hannah and Kevin Cockram of Springfield, Glory Giles of Springfield, Davalyn Giles of Springfield and Timmy Giles of Ava; two great-grandchildren, Michael Patrick DeJournett and Mary Nora DeJournett, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Mary Brundege of Rogersville, Mo.; and two beloved felines, Esmerelda and Calvin.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Gilmore was preceded in death by husbands Edwin W. Giles and Robert Gilmore, and siblings Joella Anderson, Paul Toombs, Ray Toombs, Nell Peck, Charles Toombs and Doris Rowley.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Harms of the James River Assembly of God officating. Internment will follow at the Patterson Cemetery in Springfield.
