Ray E. Stephens
Ray E. Stephens, a resident of Dexter, died on March 29, 2006, at the Cedargate Health Center of Poplar Bluff at the age of 96.

He was born on June 22, 1909, at Morley and lived most of his life in Butler and Stoddard Counties. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter, a farmer and long-time merchant.

On Oct. 4, 1930, he married Helen Stephens and to this union, two children were born: J.E. Stephens (wife, Wanda Mekan) of Gilbert, Ariz., and Narva Dean (husband, Joe Young) of Poplar Bluff.

Helen passed away in 1985, and he married Wanda Lee Stephens in 1986. She passed away in 2002.

Besides his children, he leaves seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - noon Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
