He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Mason, Sunday School teacher, past member Board of Public Works, Malden Lions Club Citizen of the Year, and an avid golfer. He had retired from Powell Supply.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a first lieutenant bomber pilot, and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Malden.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Powell of Malden; one son, Sam Powell of Malden; one sister, Francis Thompson of Memphis, Tenn.; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Powell; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden with Rev. Bob McNabb officiating.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park in Malden.
