Delmar J. Asa, 73, of Columbia City, Ind., died at 5:40 a.m. May 12, 2006, at his home.

He was born May 17, 1932, in Dexter, a son of Charles and Nida Fletcher Asa. His formative years were spent in Dexter where he completed his education.

On Oct. 15, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

On Jan. 29, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley A. Pilkington. They made their home in Dexter, later moving to Pontiac, Mich., and then Owensboro, Ky. In 1965 they moved to Columbia City, Ind. Mrs. Asa preceded him in death on June 19, 1999.

An evangelist and pastor for many years, he worked as an automotive machinist at R.P.S. and Webco. He was a member of Collins United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives include four children, Michael Asa of Pine City, Minn., Susan Jones, Marjorie Grabach and Dellas Asa, all of Columbia City, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nida Faye Marsh of Orlando, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a grandson; two brothers, Paul and Dallas; and a sister, Bernice Gaines.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Sadler Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Louie Lowe officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
