Nathaniel "Red" Rainey

Nathaniel Rainey, son of the late Pank Rainey and Alberta Rushing Rainey, was born on June 6, 1925, at Melvina, Miss., and died in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the age of 80.

Mr. Rainey was a retired farmer, a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, formerly of Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Nelvia Mae Moore in Boyle, Miss., on April 27, 1946. She remains of the home in Malden.

Survivors include seven sons, Nathaniel Bill Rainey of Gafton, Ill., Willie Rainey of St. Louis, McKinley Rainey of Parma, Anthony Rainey of Madison, Iowa, Roscoe Gordon Rainey of St. Louis, Cornelius Rainey of St. Louis, and Lawerence Rainey of Orlando, Fla.; four daughters, Nelvia Mae Donaldson of Cleveland, Ohio, Mandy Ophelia Rainey of Malden, Alberta Johnson of Parma, and Amina M. Higgs of Lakewood, Wash.; 42 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents, by one son, Carl Rainey; one grandchild; and his brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 12 noon Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. with Rev. Carl Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Standfield Cemetery at Clarkton.
