Elsie McClard Dowdy, 96, formerly of Dexter, was born on Aug. 5, 1909, and died on May 18, 2006, in Hurricane, W. Va.
Elsie was the daughter of the late James Benton McClard and Laura Belle McClard. She was the eighth of 10 children and was preceded in death by her five brothers and four sisters.
On Aug. 2, 1930, she married her high school sweetheart, Otis Dowdy, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1991.
Her survivors include two daughters, Faye Reynolds and Mary Belle Minton and her husband Paul; three granddaughters, Crystal Minton Mashayekhi and her husband Mansour, Cheryl Minton Brunetti and her husband John, and Debbie Reynolds. Elsie also had seven great-grandchildren: Andrea and Daniel Mashayekhi, Sandy, Anthony and Jack Brunetti, Kelsey and Amelia Reynolds, all of West Virginia.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dean Williams and Rev. Marion Gipson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery.
Elsie had been a member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church for 83 years.
