Lorene Abernathy, daughter of the late Travis Riggins and Rose Mae Issac Riggins, was born on Dec. 11, 1938, and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the age of 67.

Mrs. Abernathy was a good mother, a homemaker, and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Robert L. Abernathy at Dexter. Mr. Abernathy survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Tyler J. Abernathy of Dexter, Daniel Riley and Randall Riley, both of St. Joseph; one daughter, Kathy Dempsey of Haskell, Ark.; three brothers, Howard Riggins of Los Angeles, Calif., Larry Riggins of Puxico and John Riggins of Starks, La.; four sisters, Joy Hampton of Dudley, Mary Hays of Dexter, Helen Walker and Sarah Aarant, both of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was Granny to Payton and Mason Keathley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Riggins, Ed Riggins, and James (Curley) Riggins; and one sister, Betty Barker.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Dr. Odus Eubanks officiating.

Interment followed in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Stoddard County Children's Home in Bloomfield.
