Rev. James Vernon Cooper

Rev. James Vernon Cooper, son of the late Virgil Cooper and Iva Bertha Wallis Cooper, was born July 2, 1923, at Gideon and died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Golden Gate Senior Care in Malden at the age of 82.

Rev. Cooper was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II and a member of the First General Baptist Church in Malden.

He had worked at Cooper Insurance and was a retired ordained minister.

On March 26, 1943, he and Dortha June Fish were united in marriage at Malden, and she survives of the home.

Survivors include his wife, June Cooper of Malden; one son, Larry Cooper of Poplar Bluff; one daughter, Saundra Jordan of Hayti; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ruel and Norman Cooper; and two sister, Leah Button and Glessner Cooper.

Visitation was held from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bradshaw Funeral Chapel with Rev. David L. Wigger and Rev. Howard Winberry officiating.

Interment followed in Rosewood Cemetery at Malden with Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden in charge of arrangements.
