Rev. Robert Jones was born Feb. 3, 1920, at Columbus, Ky., to Fred and Vera (Stacy) Jones and died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.

He had lived most of his live in Southeast Missouri and moved to Springfield in 1992.

In 1942, he was married to Violet Edwards and to this union four children were born. He preached the Gospel for 63 years, pastoring General Baptist churches in Southeast Missouri and holding revivals in various states. He also taught in public schools. Robert was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific with General MacArthur's forces.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Jones; his children: Stanley Jones of Greenwood, Ind., Grady Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., Carolyn Risenhoover of Springfield; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Champion.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South with Rev. Dean Trivett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.

Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2006, in Missouri State Veteran Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 W. Battlefield Rd., Springfield, Mo.
