Velma Green

Velma Green, daughter of the late James and Lydia Mason Gidcumb, was born in Vinson on June 6, 1922, and died at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at the age of 84.

Mrs. Green had lived in the Bernie area most of her life and had moved to Dexter two years ago. She had attended the Bernie General Baptist Church.

On Sept. 13, 1941, she was married to Charles C. Green in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Surviving are one daughter, Susie Riddle of Bloomfield; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ola Sifford of Bernie, and Opal Ellsworth of Campbell.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lydia Jane Green on June 6, 2003; and two sisters, Effie Joseph and Ruth Joseph.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Brian Johnson of Campbell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
