He had lived in St. Louis where he worked at Boeing Aircraft until he retired and then moved to Dexter. He was a member of the 6th Missouri Infantry Company D where he would do re-enactments of Civil War battles. He also was a member of the Gluttons Club and Elks.
Surviving are one son, Thomas E. Smith, and his wife, Tina M. Smith of Dexter; two brothers, James D. Smith of Dexter and Johnny Dale Smith; 54 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at his former home.
