Shirley Kirkland, daughter of the late Herbert Brown and Zora Jeeter Brown, was born on July 22, 1933, in Morehouse and died at the Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston on Oct. 11, 2006, at the age of 73.

Mrs. Kirkland was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, a homemaker and a resident of Dexter.

On Aug. 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Kirkland in Piggott, Ark. Mr. Kirkland survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, Bob Kirkland of Dexter, other survivors include one son, Michael F. Kirkland of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Deborah Shcott, of New Hamburg and Cheryl Parker of Sikeston; four brothers, Bud Brown of Murrieta, Calif., Howard Brown of Cape Girardeau, Gene Brown of Millersville, and Kenny Brown of St. Louis; two sisters, Charlene Holt of Sikeston and Ina Wyrick of Morehouse; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Laura Kitchen, Lorene Wamble, and Lucille Payne.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Kevin Chenoweth officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
