Mary Henson Hopkins, daughter of the late Urban and Blanche Conrade Birch, was born at St. Marys on March 15, 1907, and died in Hesston, Kan., on Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at the age of 99.

Mary graduated from Cape Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University with a B.S. in education. She taught school in Southeast Missouri for 30 years, was a member of Missouri and Stoddard County Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.

On Feb. 19, 1927, she was married to Ralph "Pete" Henson, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1955. On Dec. 25, 1957, she was married to Elmer Hopkins, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2004.

Survivors include one son, Byron "Kent" Henson of Hesston, Kan.; one daughter, Donna Sue Cook of Houston, Texas; one step-daughter, Barbara West of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Bloomfield with Dr. Dave Bryan and Rev. Matt Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
