Douglas and Beverly Townsend

Douglas Ray Townsend, 64, and wife Beverly Ann Townsend, 74, died together on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Springfield.

Mr. Townsend was born on April 6, 1942, in Brownwood. He had worked as a credit collections manager for many years and was a Navy veteran. Mrs. Townsend was born on March 19, 1932, in Oakland, Calif. She was a purchaser for an engineering firm in California for many years. They were married on Sept. 3, 1977, in Reno, Nev. They are both survived by sons, Mark Townsend and wife Jill of San Diego, Calif., Mike Richina and wife Debbie of Hayward, Calif.; daughters, Cynthia Hinckley and husband Ryan of Owasso, Okla., Renie Barbieri-Newton and husband Greg of Reno, and Kim Richina of Stockton, Calif. Mr. Townsend is survived by his mother, Mary Townsend of Webb City; and brother, Dwight Townsend and wife Mary of Tolar, Texas; sisters, Betty Sue Wilton and husband Richard of Aurora, Colo., and Linda Lou Townsend of Webb City. Other survivors include grandchildren, Jonathan Fanjul, Steven Barbieri, Aidan Hinckley, Robert Richina and Nicole Richina.

A joint memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery Open Air Pavilion in Webb City. Following the memorial services there was a gathering at their parents' home.

Funeral services were under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home of Webb City.
