Maxine Tharp, daughter of the late Preston Wood and Bertha Mills Wood, was born in Leachville, Ark., on March 3, 1930, and died at the Heritage Nursing Home in Kennett on Dec. 2, 2006, at the age of 76.

Mrs. Tharp was a former resident of Risco but had lived in Parma for 15 years. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

On Dec. 22, 1948, she was married to Preston "Shorty" Tharp in Craighead County, Ark. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Billy Wayne Tharp of Batesville, Ark., and Jerry Don Tharp of Parma; one daughter, Donna Jackson of Pearland, Texas; two brothers, Bill Wood of Gary, Ind., and Harold Wood of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Mary Palmer of Bernie, Bonnie McDonald of Malden and Joyce Yarbourgh of Kennett; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 12-1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Parma.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Parma.

Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery with Watkins & sons Funeral Home of Parma in charge of arrangements.
