Martha Elizabeth Mitchell, the daughter of Sophia Masterson Deason and the late Frank Deason, was born in Mount Morris, Mich., on July 20, 1938, and died at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Jan. 7, 2007, at the age of 68.

Mrs. Mitchell had lived in Bloomfield before moving to Dexter in 1960. She had worked as a cook at the Dexter Public Schools for many years and was a member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church.

On Feb. 15, 1957, she was married to C.W. "Pete" Mitchell in Dexter. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1992.

Surviving are one son, Michael Mitchell of Dexter; one daughter, Sharon Darby of Dexter; her mother, Sophia Deason of Dexter; four grandchildren, Shaun Phillips and Christopher Phillips, both of Bloomfield, Tiffany Mitchell and Brandon Mitchell, both of Essex; and one great-grandson, Trenton Mitchell of Essex.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Dean Williams of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sadler's Chapel Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
