Delois Slavings

Delois Slavings, daughter of the late John Melvin Crump and Clara Glass Crump, was born in Bernie on April 24, 1939, and died at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at the age of 67.

She had resided in Broseley since 1972 and was a former resident of Bernie and Malden. She attended the Little Vine General Baptist Church near Fisk.

On March 15, 1968, she was married to Ralph Sterling Slavings at Big Rock, Ill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2006.

Surviving are three daughters, Eva Cobb, Clara Alvina Wright, all of Broseley, and Betty McDonald of Festus; four sons, Kelly Slavings and Mike Slavings, both of Malden, Earl Slavings of Denver, Colo., and Joe Slavings of Beaver Dam, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Ruth Crump; one sister, Mable Thompson; and two brothers, James Clayton and Orville Crump.

Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Rev. Fred Applegate officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
