Zenoba Smothers

Zenoba Smothers, 97, of Bloomfield, was born Jan. 28, 1910, near Swinton and died Feb. 3, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was the daughter of Linnie Ridge Hobbs and Logan A. Hobbs

Mrs. Smothers was united in marriage to Harvey H. Smothers on June 18, 1927. They were married nearly 77 years when he died on April 22, 2004.

Mrs. Smothers was a homemaker and an avid gardner. She resided in Cape Girardeau for the past three years of her life. Prior to that, she lived in her rural home near Bloomfield. An active member of the First General Baptist Church of Bloomfield, Zenoba was known for her love of that Lord. She loved to teach, work in vacation Bible schoool and actively attend church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pam Smothers of The Villages, Fla., and Gary and Linda Smothers of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Diane Sherry Case of Santa Monica, Calif., and Pamela Tennant of Decatur, Ala.; five great-granddaughters, Meghann, Abby, Oliva Tennant and Leah Jane and Natalie Case.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield with Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating.

Interment followed in the George Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
