Lamar Harkness

Lamar Harkness, son of the late Connie Clarence and Ather Beatrice Willliams Harkness, was born in Pontotoc, Miss., on Nov. 20, 1927, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Feb. 3, 2007, at the age of 79.

He had moved to Missouri in 1955 and had lived in the Puxico area since 1962. He was a carpenter and a carpet layer and was a member of the Church of Christ in Puxico.

On Dec. 12, 1955, he was married to Lottie B. Baker in Rockford, Ill. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2002.

Surviving are one daughter, April Lovell of Dexter; eight grandchildren, Shirley Whitaker, Monica Lovell and Bryon Lovell, all of Dexter, Larry, Sandra, Dale, Cindy and Steve Crutchfield, all of Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Mark Sanders and Lakota Sanders, both of Dexter; one sister, Doris Ann Thompson of Dexter; two brothers, George Henry Travis Harkness of Dexter and Lewis Herbert Harkness of Coal Hill, Ark.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Juanita Finch in 1973; one step-son, William J. Crutchfield; one brother, Clarence Eugene Harkness; and one sister, Beatrice Euree Holland.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Dale Grissom of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
