Maryel Neal, the daughter of the late Forrest Willard and Elsi Hileman Sherrard, was born in Royal Oaks, Mich., on May 24, 1930, and died at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., on Jan. 31, 2007, at the age of 76.

Mrs. Neal had lived in Morehouse most of her life before moving to Clarksville, Ark., in 1981, to be near family. She had worked as an L.P.N. and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morehouse and a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Sikeston.

On Nov. 14, 1953, she was married to Raymond Neal. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1980.

Surviving are two daughters, Paula K. Johnson of Clarksville, Ark., and Myrtle Lee Neal-Hendrix of West Memphis, Ark.; one son, O.A. Smith of Covington, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dortha Lee Sherrard.

Visitation was held from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse with Kevin Hendrix of Olive Branch, Miss., officiating.

Interement followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home of Morehouse in charge of arrangements.
