Joe Thomas Smith, 88, of Bernie died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at his residence.
He was born March 18, 1918, in Powhatan, Ark., son of Thomas Burrell and Maude M. Dunn Smith. He and Beatrice Hammond were united in marriage on Dec. 15, 1969.
Mr. Smith worked as a logger, served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II where he earned two bronze stars and a purple heart and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of Bernie; one daughter, Terry Ratcliff of Valles Mines; two sisters, Retta Varner of Ash Grove and Linda Trout of Florence, Mont.
He is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Joe, Paul, Arthur, Dale, Howard, Ralph; and four sisters, Ora Kirkpatrick, Rosemary Sobba, Vera Smith and Hester Carroll.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the Liley Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Robbins officiating.
Interment will follow in the Grassy Friendship Cemetery.
