Martha Elizabeth Cooper, the daughter of the late Ira and Bessie Crane Thompson, was born March 10, 1910, in Stoddard County where she was a lifelong resident. She died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, in the Golden Living Center in Bloomfield at the age of 96. She was a member of the St. Joe General Baptist Church in Idalia.

In 1935, she was married to Lonnie Kelley who preceded her in death in January 1986. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Farrel and Ramona Kelley of Bloomfield and Clinton and Laverne Kelley of Dexter; one granddaughter, Renee Hankins; and one great-granddaughter, Rachel Hankins of Bloomfield; one step-granddaughter, Debbie Adams of West Point, Iowa; two step-grandsons, Mark Farmer of Memphis, Tenn., and Jeff Farmer of Horn Lake, Miss.; and two step-great-granddaughters, Ashley Hellman of Houghton, Iowa and Rebecca Farmer of Horn Lake, Miss.; two step-great-grandsons, Andy and Adam Hellman of Houghton, Iowa; and one sister, Bernice Dutton of Dexter.

Two brothers, Gilbert and Thurman Thompson and three sisters, Sina Layton, May Cates and Ethel Wassom preceded her in death.

In 1961 she was united in marriage to Ralph Cooper who preceded her in death in December 1983.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Dan Sitz officiating.

Interment followed in Walker Cemetery.
