Elizabeth Petty

Mary Elizabeth Petty, daughter of the late Hubert L. Swinger and Mildred Lillian Jones Swinger, was born on Feb. 7, 1936, at Frisco and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girardeau on Feb. 12, 2007, at the age of 71.

Mrs. Petty was a member of the Broadwater Church Of The Brethren at Frisco where she served as organist and treasurer for 40 years. She was a language arts teacher in the Richland Public School District for 35 years. She was a member of the Stoddard County Retired Teachers Association, had worked with Tri-County Counseling, a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, served as district clerk for the Missouri-Arkansas Church Of The Brethren and a resident of Essex.

She was united in marriage to Charles Petty on Dec. 27, 1955, at Frisco. Mr. Petty survives of the home in Essex.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Danny Petty of Essex; one daughter, Marie Froman of Patterson; one grandson; two sisters, Dorothy Nicholson of St. Joseph; and Harriet Swinger of Jefferson City.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Harold Gass and Rev. Cynthia Sanders officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
