Mr. Smith was a member of the Sadler Chapel United Methodist Church near Dexter, the owner of Smitty's Machine and Welding Shop in Dexter, a farmer, a veteran of the United States Marines serving in World War II and a resident of Dexter.
He was united in marriage to Lena Redfairn on June 14, 1941, at Kennett. Mrs. Smith survives of the home in Dexter.
Besides his wife , he is survived by four sons, Jerry Dwight Smith of Grassy, Ronald Lee Smith of Doniphan, Larry Charles Smith of Bloomfield, and Rickie L. Smith of Batesville, Ark.; two brothers, George Smith of Livingston, Ill., and Marvin Smith of Dexter; four sisters, Eva Middleton Barrow of Granite City, Ill., Lawanda Allie of Michigan City, Ind., Monita Parks of Caseyville, Ill., and Stella Norman of Evansville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Smith; three sisters, Gladys Gowan, Cleetis Bardsley and Myrtle Bucy.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shannon W. Smith, grandson of Mr. Smith, and Rev. Andy Amble officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery.
