Gladys Wilburn

Gladys Wilburn, the daughter of the late Bertha Graves Clark, was born in Dexter on March 6, 1921, and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at the age of 85.

Mrs. Wilburn had lived in Dexter all of her life. She had worked at the La Hub Cafe, Elder Manufacturing Company and the Hat Factory. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter.

She was first married to Floyd Gaines, and he preceded her in death.

On April 9, 1971, she was married to Russell Dallas Wilburn. He preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 1992.

Surviving are two sons, Marlin "Moe" Gaines of Sikeston and Gene Gaines of Dexter; two daughters, Wanda Carwile of Dexter and Pat Wills of Festus; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mamie Campbell of Dexter.

She was preceded in death by four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
