Elza Chaney

Elza "Breck" Chaney, son of the late Samuel Lee and Flora Hawks Chaney, was born in Puxico on July 23, 1922, and died at the Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at the age of 84.

On Feb. 24, 1946, he was married to Rita Nadine Shull in Pocahontas, Ark. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1994.

He was a Puxico High School graduate in 1940 and had lived in St. Louis most of his life. He had worked in management at the Union Electric Company in St. Louis for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served with the Construction Battalion (Seabees). He was a member of the Canaan Baptist Church in St. Louis County and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in St. Louis.

Surviving are two grandsons; two brothers, David G. Chaney of Florissant and Louis W. Chaney of O'Fallon; two sisters, Rose Gillett of Flint, Mich., and Flora Lee Mansbridge of Fisk.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra K. Adamson; one brother, Sam Chaney; and one sister, Helen Payne.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with Rev. Sara "Sally" J. Chaney of Webster Groves officiating.

Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico in charge of arrangements. Full military rites will be conducted by the Stoddard County Veterans Honor Team.
