Wilma J. Owens, daughter of the late William R. Willis and Eva M. Bennett Willis, was born on Feb. 1, 1928, in Bloomfield and died on March 31, 2007, at the Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter at the age of 79.

Mrs. Owens was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, Friends of the Library, and past president of Dexter Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a former board member of Girl Scouts Cotton Boll Council, a former Girl Scout, and Cub Scout leader, Dexter's Woman of the Year in 1981, and a resident of Dexter.

On March 16, 1952, she was united in marriage to Fred A. Owens in Dexter. Mr. Owens preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2000.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Mike Bagby of Dexter; one sister, Helen Duggins of Lockwood; two grandchildren, Britney Bagby and Ryan Bagby of Dexter.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Lyle Owens; and one grandson, Kyle Aaron Bagby.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kevin Chenoweth officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church library or building fund, Dexter Boy Scout Troop #200, Dexter Girl Scouts Cotton Boll Council or the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
