Gilbert Thatcher Scism, son of the late Thomas Gilbert and Myrtie Cleveland Scism, was born at Bloomfield on Sept. 26, 1907, and died at Garden View Care Center in O'Fallon on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the age of 99.

Mr. Scism was retired from Production Credit Association in Sikeston. Mr. Scism had been a resident of St. Charles for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in St. Charles, the Rotary Club of St. Charles, and Rotary past district governor in Sikeston. He was married to Ivah Baskerville, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1995.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bert and Carolyn Scism of St. Charles; one brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Vera Scism of Park Hills; one sister-in-law, Bettye Scism of Dexter; two granddaughters, Gwendolyn Scism and Diana and Mike Cornett of St. Charles; and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Cornett of St. Charles.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Byron Scism.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 11, 2007.

Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
