Leora Newman, 86, formerly of Morehouse and Sikeston, died April 22, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. at Portageville Nursing Center. She was born on Dec. 20, 1920, in Canalou to the late Leslie and Coela Greer Arbuckle. She taught foods and nutrition for 20 years for the University of Missouri Extension Office in Benton. She was a member of the Morehouse Church of Christ and attended the Portageville Church of Christ. She was a member of the Kingsway Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Sikeston and also belonged to the McMullin Extension Club. She was a volunteer at the Dexter Senior Center for a number of years. She married Phillip L. Newman on Feb. 25, 1939, in New Madrid, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1991.
She is survived by her son, Phillip T. Newman of New Madrid; one daughter, Carole Prince of Portageville; one sister, Norma Busby of Lilbourn; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, in the Nunnelee's Chapel. Jimmy Colvett, minister at Matthews Church of Christ, will officiate, and he will be assisted by Jerry Anderson, minister of the Portageville Church of Christ.
Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
