Belle Gaines, daughter of the late William Holly Day and Cynthia Caroline Jarrell Day, was born on July 31, 1910, near Dexter and died on May 13, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 96.

Mrs. Gaines was a retired bank teller with Citizens Bank in Dexter, member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter, also a member of Kenady-Hanks Post #59, American Legion Auxiliary, Dexter Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Harold Marvin Gaines on March 31, 1937, at Hornersville. Mr. Gaines preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1961.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil Day, Leslie Day, and Holly Day; three sisters, Carrie Root, Blanche Wood, and Anna Bingham.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Louis Lowe officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
