Donald Layton, son of the late Riley C. Layton and Dollie Johnson Layton, was born on March 16, 1939, in Bloomfield and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on May 23, 2007 at the age of 68.
Mr. Layton was a former truck driver for Busy B Lumber Company in Dexter for many years, enjoyed selling produce during the summer time, and a resident of Bloomfield.
On Dec. 23, 1960, he was united in marriage to Pansy Fleetwood at Dexter. Mrs. Layton preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 1998. He was then united in commitment to Dorothy Waltz in Bloomfield on March 3, 2003. Mrs. Layton survives of the home in Bloomfield.
Survivors include one son, Donnie Layton of Dexter; two daughters, Joan Layton and Lisa Bien, both of Dexter; one brother, Marvin Layton of Dexter; five sisters, Helen Patton of Brighton, Ill., Rosina Hartline, Verda Mae Allstun, and Myrtle Lee Allstun, all from Dexter, and Vivian Campoy of Irmo, S.C.; also by four grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Layton and James Layton; and one sister, Jolene Layton.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m.. Friday, May 25, 2007.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.
Interment will follow at the Link Cemetery in rural Bloomfield.
